Change of Name: From Village to Harvard
Isaiah 62:1-12 | John 2:1-12
The A.C.K. Kiaga Parish witnessed a special occasion at Munganga Church, where the laying of the foundation stone and a confirmation ceremony took place. The event was graced by the PS from the Ministry of Health and a sermon by Rt. Rev. Dr. Kibucwa.
The Bishop began with a compelling story titled “From Village to Harvard.” He shared the journey of a young lady, “N,” from a dysfunctional family that faced sudden hardships. She ended up on the streets, but through the kindness of a stranger, her school fees were paid, allowing her to attend secondary school. She excelled academically and received sponsorship to study at Harvard University, eventually becoming a professional journalist. This powerful tale served as a reminder of the transformative power of opportunity and faith.
Drawing a parallel with the wedding at Cana, the Bishop highlighted the contrasts in both this event and Isaiah 62:
- Down – Up: God’s ability to elevate the lowly, as seen in the wedding where what started as a problem – running out of wine – turned into a glorious moment when Jesus transformed water into wine.
- Lack – Plenty: Isaiah 62 speaks of a time when Israel, once abandoned and desolate, would be restored and blessed. In the same way, the wedding, once on the brink of disaster, was transformed into joy and abundance.
- Shame to Glory: What could have ended in shame turned into glory, as God’s presence turned the situation around. The same is true for us; we may be struggling, but with God’s blessing, we can experience transformation and glory.
The master of ceremony at the wedding questioned the bridegroom’s decision to serve the best wine last, but Jesus’ presence in the situation turned everything upside down. In Isaiah 62:4, God declares that Israel will no longer be called “Deserted” or “Desolate,” but will be known for its splendor and glory.
The message was clear: just as Jesus transformed the wedding, God promises to bless us when we come to Him. For the sake of His people, He will not rest until He blesses us.
